There were seven bull buffalo who were mean and hostile. When Old Man Coyote comes across them, he is challenged to a race, but he is so engrossed in his own thoughts about what he sees as the entrapments of his marriage that he ignores them.
On his way home he is so distracted that he nearly falls off the edge of a cliff. This gives him an idea. He goes back to the seven buffalo and when the leader starts to harass him, he agrees to a foot race. Coyote leads them to the precarious edge, then jumps out of the way as they all tumble down.
