Ancient Ones

The earliest Puebloan ancestors to settle the Southwest are known as the Anasazi. This name is thought to translate as ‘the ancient enemy’. But the Navajo believe this is a mistranslation of a word which means ‘our grandmothers’ or ‘elders’.
