The Four Hills of Life

Darrah Goggles tells the story of the “Four Hills of Life,” as passed on to her by her grandmother, Dorris Mae Wagon, a member of the Northern Arapaho. The four hills of life – the baby, adolescent, adult, and elder stages, are all important to the development and well-being of all tribal members. Darrah believes that learning the old ways of doing things with clarity and patience is essential to preserving the wisdom of her ancestors.

Darrah is an enrolled member of the Blackfeet Nation in Browning, Montana. She is the Native Memory Project’s Wind River Coordinator. Her work with NMP focuses on preserving culture and tradition by creating short documentaries based on interviews with Indigenous community members.
