Today’s Voices
Many of the stories told about the land today center on issues of conservation, wildlife, and the health of communities. These include maintaining the integrity of wildlife and migration corridors, monitoring watersheds, water and air pollution, and the effects of mining and mineral extraction. These in turn involve stories about the impact of extractive industries and their effects on the health of local communities. The impact of uranium mining and uranium tailings on Wyoming’s Wind River Indian Reservation is one such example. Such stories voice the values of those who have lived on these lands for generations and frame the issues of how the future will move forward.
